Driving customers to smile for the past 50 years

Florida's Turnpike Enterprise delivered on its commitment to provide service excellence to their customers according to the 2006 Annual Customer Satisfaction Survey. Sent to approximately 1.7 million SunPass customers, the survey measured customer responses on a variety of topics including the SunPass program, road conditions and the service plazas. Overall, customers have a very favorable view of Florida's Turnpike. Highlights from the 2006 survey include:

96% of customers report they are satisfied with the value they receive from the SunPass program
96% say they would recommend the Turnpike System to family and friends
92% indicate they receive value in the form of safety, service and convenience

Florida's Turnpike Enterprise has implemented several new programs in the past years to continue to improve the value of the toll paid in the form of safety, service and convenience. Below are highlights of some of those programs.

A commitment to knock your socks off!
Following in the footsteps of the world-famous Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle - known for its unique and entertaining approach to customer service - the Okahumpka Service Plaza began the Wow! Customer Service Commitment in July 2006.

For more than a year, staff members have Wowed! their customers, doing whatever it takes to bring smiles to customers' faces and have fun in the process. From greeting visitors to anticipating customer needs to providing extraordinary service - the Okahumpka staff members bring a positive attitude and work to exceed customers' expectations.

As a result, the Wow! program participants make a positive impression and a special connection with their customers. With celebrations and festivities occurring throughout the year, be sure to stop by the Okahumpka Service Plaza to see the Wow! program in action.

Test track improves safety and efficient tolling
Florida's Turnpike Enterprise has begun using a test track at the former Sunshine Speedway in Pinellas Park. Through this dedicated facility, Florida's Turnpike Enterprise tests new technology and other innovative ideas in a safe, effective and controlled environment. Because toll lanes on Florida's Turnpike are not used for testing, customer service is not impacted and traffic continues to flow as normal. This test track facility plays a key role in making the new technology available for Florida's Turnpike customers!

Service plazas stand hurricane-ready
During the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005 many service plazas were the only locations in hurricane ravaged areas open for local citizens, traveling motorists and emergency response crews. Because of the importance of service plazas in relief efforts, Florida's Turnpike Enterprise invested $7.5 million to supply all service plazas with generators that can sustain full power for long periods of utility outages. These 'super' generators can fully power plazas for 72 hours before needing to be refueled. Now service plazas are able to provide better customer service through fully operational food, beverage and fuel services in an air-conditioned environment. Additionally, each service plaza and service station has automated external defibrillators available throughout the year to help save lives.

Please note: Service plazas are only open during storms as long as they are deemed safe by Florida's Highway Patrol and should not be considered hurricane shelters.

Roadway improvements for safety
To improve customer safety, median guardrails were added to the roadways to reduce the impact of crossover accidents along many portions of the Turnpike. Furthermore, the installation of cable barriers along the roadways that border canals and ponds have been and continue to be added in many areas to reduce the number of vehicles that may enter the water.

Enhancing your traveling experience
Florida's Turnpike Enterprise continually reviews ways to improve safety and customer service, some of the upcoming projects include beautifying the roadways, refurbishing the service plazas, adding convenience stores at service stations and implementing open road tolling at some of the busiest toll plazas. As the Florida's Turnpike System expands and improves, excellent customer service remains the focus: We affect people's lives by bringing a smile to the face of everyone we serve.
