Motorist Assistance Guide

Florida’s Turnpike services to aid customers in need of vehicle assistance include:

• Florida’s Turnpike Service Plaza Gas/Service Stations
• State Farm Safety Patrol (Road Ranger) Program
• Specialty Towing and Roadside Repair (STARR) program


Gas and Convenience Store:

• Full service at plaza pumps by request
• Free air for tires at station
• Free water for vehicles at station

Safety Patrol/Road Rangers (Free service during limited hours):

• Tire changes with vehicle spare
• Emergency gas (no more than 2 gallons)
• Jump starts
• Simple lockouts
• Minor emergency repairs that can be completed in less than 15 minutes
• There may be a significant wait time for the Safety Patrol to arrive.

Specialty Towing and Roadside Repair Program (STARR) (Charges apply for all services):

• 24/7 Service via FHP dispatched response
• Response is at a cost to customer
• The STARR operator will provide you with a fee sheet prior to providing service
• Minor services include:

o Tire changes
o Emergency Gas
o Jump starts
o Simple lockouts

• Local or long distance tow services
• Current companies providing authorized assistance through Turnpike’s STARR program in the Canoe Creek and Fort Drum service plaza areas:

o Tri-County Towing
o Tropic Towing
o The Car Store

STARR service vehicles can be identified by the Turnpike authorization sticker on the side of
the vehicle. STARR providers are also authorized AAA contractors.

IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE on Florida’s Turnpike:

• Ask a Service Plaza Gas/Service station attendant or cashier for help.
Call *3-4-7 to connect with the Florida Highway Patrol for dispatch of Safety
Patrol, if available, or STARR Tow Operators.
• Call 1-800-222-4357 for AAA certified repair shops, locksmith and other
services. (You do not need to be an AAA member to call. Charges may apply)
• Use a Motorist Aid Callbox to connect with the Florida Highway Patrol. A Safety Patrol
operator will be dispatched if available. A STARR service vehicle will be dispatched if the
Safety Patrol is not available. Charges may apply.
