Paying For Tolls

Florida’s Turnpike System roads are constructed, operated and maintained through toll revenues collected from our customers. Every vehicle pays a toll that is generally based on the distance of the trip and the number of axles on the vehicle. Customers can choose to pay their tolls electronically using SunPass (the preferred method), another interoperable transponder, or TOLL-BY-PLATE. TRUE USER FEE

A toll is a true user fee. It is not a tax! You only pay for a toll when you choose to use a toll road.

If you do not drive on the toll road, then you do not have to pay.

You are paying for reliability and safety. Many toll roads, such as Florida’s Turnpike have convenient service plazas with food, fuel and a place to stretch your legs.

Many tolls on roads, bridges and tunnels are now collected electronically, making it easier to pay. There’s no delay while you look for cash to pay a toll.

With an electronic transponder like SunPass, you can zip through toll lanes without having to slow down or stop.
