Introduction
Suncoast Parkway 2 Phase 3 will be a four-lane (two lanes in each direction) toll facility that extends from CR 486 to US 19, approximately 10 miles. The project will include the following:
- Completing a full interchange at CR 486 to accommodate northbound traffic movements.
- New interchanges at CR 495 and US 19.
- Two (2) Electronic Tolling Collection (ETC) locations.
- Related drainage, lighting, highway signing, traffic signalization, guardrails, and sidewalks.
- The continuation of the Suncoast Trail, part of Florida’s Statewide Greenways and Trails System.
- Realignment of W. Dunnellon Road to allow for a new interchange at SR 589 and US19. Widening and reconstruction of CR 495 (N Citrus Ave) at the proposed interchange.
Project Area
Environment
The proposed roadway is following the approved alignment that was developed during the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study completed in 1998. The PD&E Study considered several alignment alternatives for the proposed extension of Suncoast Parkway 2/SR 589. The chosen alignment was selected based on providing the most efficient corridor to minimize impacts to residential areas and environmentally protected lands and species.
The 1998 State Environmental Impact Report (SEIR) developed during this process was re-evaluated in 2010, 2017, and 2022 for other design phases. The Enterprise plans to perform another re-evaluation for the Phase 3 design segments.
