This exhibit shows the existing and reconfigured typical sections for the existing Coconut Creek Parkway bridge over Florida’s Turnpike, looking west. At the top, we have the existing conditions. In the westbound direction, the bridge currently includes two travel lanes, a dedicated left-turn lane, a bicycle lane, and a fenced-in sidewalk. On the eastbound side, we have two travel lanes, one dedicated left-turn lane, one dedicated bicycle lane, and a fenced-in sidewalk.
Below, the reconfigured typical section reflects significant improvements to safety for users on the bridge. Note that the existing bridge will not be replaced but will be reconfigured as shown. On the westbound side, the reconfigured section includes two dedicated left-turn lanes to the new southbound on-ramp to Florida’s Turnpike and two westbound travel lanes. In the eastbound direction, the bridge will provide three travel lanes.
In addition, the existing bike lane and 5 foot sidewalk are being replaced with shared use paths on both sides of the bridge, and new fencing adjacent to the proposed shared use paths. The shared use paths are physically separated from the travel lanes by raised concrete barriers which enhances safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.
