Map of the Florida Turnpike interchange modifications at Coconut Creek Parkway, highlighting project location and limits.

The overall project area, as shown in purple, includes the existing Florida’s Turnpike interchange at Coconut Creek Parkway, Coconut Creek Parkway/Dr Martin Luther King Junior Blvd/Hammondville Road from NW 39th Avenue to NW 27th Avenue, Blount Road from Coconut Creek Parkway to NW 16th Court and a portion of NW 31st Avenue south of Coconut Creek Parkway. This project is a modification to the interchange and does not include widening of Florida’s Turnpike.

Diagram showing Coconut Creek Parkway section, comparing existing and reconfigured layouts for eastbound and westbound traffic.

This exhibit shows the existing and reconfigured typical sections for the Coconut Creek Parkway between NW 39th Avenue to Coconut Creek Parkway Bridge as you look west. At the top, you can see the existing conditions. Heading westbound, the roadway currently provides two travel lanes, two dedicated left-turn lanes, a bike lane, a sidewalk and a landscaped area. On the eastbound side, we have a similar sidewalk and separated bike lane, along with two eastbound travel lanes and a single left-turn lane.

Below that, the reconfigured typical section illustrates how the corridor will be improved. In the westbound direction, two dedicated left-turn lanes and two westbound travel lanes are being maintained. However, the existing bike lane and 5 foot sidewalk are being replaced with a 10 foot shared use path on both sides of the roadway. The shared use path is physically separated from the travel lanes which enhances safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.

On the eastbound side, capacity is being enhanced by providing three dedicated eastbound travel lanes and a separate right-turn lane to the new southbound on-ramp to Florida’s Turnpike while also incorporating the same shared use path mentioned previously.

Interchange modifications map showing existing and reconfigured Coconut Creek Parkway Bridge over Florida's Turnpike.

This exhibit shows the existing and reconfigured typical sections for the existing Coconut Creek Parkway bridge over Florida’s Turnpike, looking west. At the top, we have the existing conditions. In the westbound direction, the bridge currently includes two travel lanes, a dedicated left-turn lane, a bicycle lane, and a fenced-in sidewalk. On the eastbound side, we have two travel lanes, one dedicated left-turn lane, one dedicated bicycle lane, and a fenced-in sidewalk.

Below, the reconfigured typical section reflects significant improvements to safety for users on the bridge. Note that the existing bridge will not be replaced but will be reconfigured as shown. On the westbound side, the reconfigured section includes two dedicated left-turn lanes to the new southbound on-ramp to Florida’s Turnpike and two westbound travel lanes. In the eastbound direction, the bridge will provide three travel lanes.

In addition, the existing bike lane and 5 foot sidewalk are being replaced with shared use paths on both sides of the bridge, and new fencing adjacent to the proposed shared use paths. The shared use paths are physically separated from the travel lanes by raised concrete barriers which enhances safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.
