Interchange Improvements at Hainlin Mill Road Public Hearing Exhibit Room

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise is improving the Turnpike in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The purpose of the project is to enhance safety, address roadway and bridge repairs, and improve overall traffic operations at the existing interchanges. The key project improvements are between Hainlin Mill Road (SW 216th Street) and Caribbean Boulevard. Bridge improvements and noise wall installations are included at a few locations from Biscayne Drive (SW 288th Street) to north of US 1 (Dixie Highway).

This project includes the design of new noise walls along Florida’s Turnpike between Mileposts 5 and 12. The proposed improvements will have no impact to the existing noise walls, and all existing noise walls will remain. The project includes new noise walls at eight (8) locations – including seven (7) noise wall gap closures, and one (1) new noise wall along Florida’s Turnpike that extends approximately 1400 feet between Caribbean Boulevard and US 1.  For more information regarding the noise wall evaluation process and approach, and to view the locations of the proposed noise walls, please visit the project website at www.TurnpikeatHainlinMill.com.

The proposed northbound Turnpike from Caribbean Boulevard to US 1 configuration widens to the east and will consist of one 11.5-foot through lane, two 11.5-foot travel lanes, two 12-foot travel lanes, and 12-foot inside and outside shoulders. The proposed configuration also includes a new 8-foot-high noise wall, which extends approximately 1400 feet along the northbound Turnpike between Caribbean Boulevard and US 1.

The proposed improvements include the inside and outside widening of the northbound Turnpike bridge over Caribbean Boulevard to accommodate a new 12-foot ramp lane and a future through lane. The proposed northbound bridge configuration will consist of one 11.5-foot through lane, two 11.5-foot travel lanes, and two 12-foot ramp lanes. The southbound bridge configuration will remain the same.

The proposed improvements include:

– the widening of Cutler Ridge Boulevard (SW 211^th Street) to provide an additional left-turn lane in the eastbound direction. To accommodate the additional lane, the proposed Cutler Ridge Boulevard configuration widens to the south under the Turnpike bridge and will consist of two 12-foot left-turn lanes and one 12-foot left-turn shared through lane in the eastbound direction. The westbound configuration will remain the same.

– the widening of Hainlin Mill Road (SW 216^th Street) to provide additional turn lanes and travel lanes. To accommodate additional lanes, the proposed Hainlin Mill Road configuration widens to the south under the Turnpike bridge and will consist of three 12-foot travel lanes and two 12-foot left-turn lanes in the eastbound direction, and with two 11-foot travel lanes and two 10-foot left-turn lanes in the westbound direction.

– the inside widening of the southbound frontage road between Hainlin Mill Road (SW 216^th Street) and Cutler Ridge Boulevard (SW 211^th Street). To accommodate a new travel lane, the proposed southbound frontage road configuration widens to the east and will consist of three 12-foot travel lanes, with a five-foot sidewalk.

This map provides an overview of the proposed improvements along Florida’s Turnpike at milepost 6 and between mileposts 11 and 12. At milepost 6, proposed improvements include minor rehabilitation and restriping of the northbound Turnpike bridge over Tallahassee Road (SW 137^th Avenue).

Between milepost 11 and 12, key improvements include:

– widening of Hainlin Mill Road (SW 216th Street) and Cutler Ridge Boulevard (SW 211th Street) under the Florida’s Turnpike to provide additional through lanes and left-turn lanes

– widening of the northbound Turnpike bridge over Caribbean Boulevard

– surface street improvements between Hainlin Mill Road (SW 216th Street) and US 1

– a new 8-foot-high noise wall along the northbound Turnpike between Caribbean Boulevard and US 1

This map provides an overview of the proposed improvements along Florida’s Turnpike at milepost 13. At milepost 13, proposed improvements include:

• milling and resurfacing of the Turnpike south frontage road between Eureka Drive (SW 184^th Street) and Quail Roost Drive (SW 186^th Street)
• rehabilitation of the bridge over C-1N canal

milling and resurfacing and minor widening of Eureka Drive westbound to accommodate a left-turn lane extension
