Project Details

Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, part of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), is planning to widen the Sawgrass Expressway SR 869 from south of NW 8th Street to north of Commercial Boulevard CR 870 from six to ten lanes. This corridor will be constructed in three segments and will enhance roadway safety, improve traffic operations, better facilitate emergency evacuations, and provide additional capacity to meet future traffic demands.

These projects are currently in the design phase. Design is the third phase of the FDOT Project Development Process. Construction plans, specifications, and final estimates to build a project are developed during this phase.

Key Improvements Includes:

  • Widening from six (6) to ten (10) lanes
  • Interchange improvements at:
    • Sunrise Boulevard (CR 838)
    • Pat Salerno Drive
    • Oakland Park Boulevard (CR 816)
    • Commercial Boulevard (CR 870)
  • New interchange at NW 8th Street
  • Bridge widening and reconstruction
  • Stormwater management improvements
  • New Electronic Toll Collection (ETC)
  • Noise walls improvements

Noise Studies are performed in the PD&E phase and the Design phase, and re-evaluated if there is a major change in design to the roadway alignment.
