Project Details
Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE), part of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), is planning to widen the Sawgrass Expressway (SR 869) from north of Sample Road to west of SR 7 (US 441) from six to ten lanes. This corridor will be constructed in two segments and will enhance roadway safety, improve traffic operations, better facilitate emergency evacuations, and provide additional capacity to meet future traffic demands.
These projects are currently in the design phase. Design is the third phase of the FDOT Project Development Process. Construction plans, specifications, and final estimates to build a project are developed during this phase.
Key Improvements Includes:
- Widening from six (6) to ten (10) lanes
- Interchange improvements at:
- Coral Ridge Drive
- University Drive
- Bridge widening and reconstruction
- Stormwater management improvements
- Noise walls improvements
Noise Studies are performed in the PD&E phase and the Design phase, and re-evaluated if there is a major change in design to the roadway alignment.
Project Status
- These projects are currently in Design.
- Construction is funded in FDOT fiscal year 2026.
