Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) has begun converting the 18-mile portion of Polk Parkway/SR 570 to ETC between Interstate 4 (MP 0) and Old Dixie Highway/CR 546 (MP 18), in Polk County. This project includes replacing existing toll plazas with new toll gantries at Western Mainline and Central Mainline and replacing the existing ramp toll plaza at SR 540 with a new mainline toll gantry.
There are several benefits to converting to an ETC system:
- Time Savings – Customers do not have to stop to pay the toll and do not have to worry about searching for cash.
- Improves Mobility and Enhances Safety — ETC allows drivers to travel at a steady pace which increases throughput in the travel lanes and improves safety and mobility along the corridor.
- Reduces Emissions and Fuel Consumption — Due to the elimination of the acceleration and idling, vehicular emissions and fuel consumption are reduced.
