In 1957, Troop K of the Florida Highway Patrol began safeguarding the 110-mile stretch of what was then known as the Sunshine State Parkway, now Florida’s Turnpike, from Miami on the south end to Fort Pierce on the north end. Today, the two hundred-plus members of Troop K, known as the “Turnpike Troop”, are headquartered with Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) inside the Turkey Lake Service Plaza complex at Mile Post 263. Troop K is the official law enforcement partner for the entire Florida’s Turnpike system and partners with FTE to develop programs that will provide a safe driving environment for our customers.
