Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise follows the Florida Department of Transportation’s five-phase Project Development Process for delivering needed infrastructure improvements to communities throughout the state. The phases include Planning, Project Development & Environment – or PD&E – Study, Design, Right-of-Way Acquisition, and Construction.

The Planning and PD&E Phases of this project have been completed, and the project is currently in the Design Phase. The Design phase is when the construction plans and cost estimates to build a project are developed.

The Design phase is followed by Right-of-Way acquisition and construction. Right-of-Way acquisition is expected to begin mid-2026. Construction is tentatively expected to start in 2028.

The top image of this exhibit depicts the existing turnpike mainline typical section facing south, with 2 lanes in each direction, 8-foot outside paved shoulders, 3.5-foot inside paved shoulders with double faced guardrail adjacent to the southbound travel lanes, and a grassed median.

The bottom image of this exhibit depicts the proposed improvements. The existing 4-lane turnpike mainline will be widened to eight 12-foot lanes with 12-foot shoulders in each direction. In the new configuration the grass median will be converted to a paved median with 12-foot paved shoulders and a concrete median barrier wall.

The top image of this exhibit depicts the existing US 192 (SR 500) typical section under the Turnpike Mainline facing east, with 3 lanes in each direction, 4-foot bike lanes, and bridge pier protection offset by striping. Sidewalks are located behind concrete shoulder barriers adjacent to bridge piers.

This bottom image of this exhibit depicts the proposed configuration of US 192 (SR 500). The road will be widened to accommodate the new left turn lanes associated with the new entrance ramps, provide wider buffered bike lanes, and eliminate the outside bridge piers, allowing the removal of shoulder barriers while providing increased sight distances.

This exhibit shows the existing interchange at the turnpike mainline (SR 91) and US 192 (SR 500). The turnpike mainline currently has four lanes, two in each direction. This project will widen the turnpike mainline to eight lanes, four in each direction as shown here.

The existing northbound exit ramp will be widened from a single left in the current condition, to provide dual left turn lanes to provide additional storage for traffic to travel westbound on US 192 (SR 500) while maintaining the existing single right turn lane for traffic to travel eastbound. The existing signal strain poles at this intersection will be impacted by the proposed improvements and will be upgraded.

The new northbound entrance ramp will utilize dual right turn lanes for westbound US 192 (SR 500), and a single left turn lane will provide access to the northbound entrance ramp for traffic traveling eastbound on US 192 (SR 500) for access to northbound Turnpike mainline. A new signalized intersection will be constructed to safely accommodate these turning movements.

The new southbound exit ramp, which will provide triple left turn lanes to travel eastbound on US 192 (SR 500), and a single right turn lane to travel westbound. A new signalized intersection will be constructed to safely accommodate these turning movements.

The new southbound entrance ramp will utilize single turn lanes for eastbound and westbound US 192 (SR 500) to access the southbound Turnpike Mainline. A new signalized intersection will be constructed to safely accommodate these turning movements.
